Overcoming Plateaus to Reach the Next Level

What do you do when you’re building your law firm and you hit a plateau? You know the feeling: you can’t get past a certain problem; you can’t hit a certain target — you feel stuck.

You may have consistently been able to get a certain number of cases in the door or hit a certain revenue target, but there’s just something in your way that’s keeping you from getting to that next level.

Many of us have found ourselves in this situation. So what do you do?

Well, if you’re hitting a plateau, chances are, what got you here won’t get you there.

In other words, the information that you have right now is not going to be the information perhaps that you need, and it’s up to you to uncover that blind spot or figure out the resources necessary to fix it.

I can tell you from experience that oftentimes making those big leaps to get out of ruts requires us to reframe and reshape the way we think about things. The way your business is designed and running today is going to produce the results that you are getting today.

If you want to take those results a step further and raise the bar for your firm, you’re going to have to operate differently.

Maybe it requires bringing in stronger leadership or a stronger team. Maybe you have to expand your capacity. Maybe you have to invest more in marketing. Maybe you have to improve your operations. Maybe you have to improve your intake. Maybe you have to manage cash flow differently.

But there’s a hack to all this — a sort of shortcut to learning what to do and executing it.

The greatest hack to learning what it will take for your law firm to go from good to great is to reach out to those who have already done it. Learn from the law firm owners who have already accomplished what you’re striving for — who have already gone where you want to go.

This may be a mentor, a mastermind group, or a coaching program — the point is that you can’t do it alone.

Be open to new information and to hearing another perspective. It’s going to make all the difference for your growth.

Be open-minded to the fact that the solutions that have gotten you to this point may be different solutions that require you to move from where you are, to where you want to be.
